Here you may find a list of the rules of this site, as well as what is expected of it's roleplayers. By joining our Roleplay, you hereby agree to all of the following terms, without exception:
General Rules
1. Swearing is allowed (especially IC), but not to offend OOC. Fighting in OOC is strictly prohibited.
2. Be courteous to your fellow Pernese, and please use common sense when making characters and conversing among your fellows.
3. Excessive violence is a no-go, though lesser tones of violence are allowed.
4. This is a very serious RP, despite the goofy nature of many of our members and staff, and as such IC is to be taken seriously. OOC is whatever.
5. Inactivity of three months will result in your characters being archived, and after six months, put up for adoption (if specified allowable). If you remain inactive, at the end of the year all inactive characters will be killed in some heinous way if we haven't heard from you whatsoever. Recommended that if you are to be inactive for a long stretch, you post notice in the General boards or PM a staff member.
6. Please make only one account, with the name you wish to be referred to in OOC. Only one account is allowed per person, and all of your characters are to be tracked by you, the player, most easily through links in your signature or a character directory thread.
7. Signatures may contain no images larger then 400 pixels in height and 300 pixels in length. This is to prevent the board from stretching. You may also link to your character's profiles using text.
8. Any content of sexual nature is strictly prohibited on this site.
Roleplay Rules
1. A time mechanic should not be needed until the site grows bigger, this clause is subject to change. All threads are assumed to be "frozen" in one particular time relative to the others, usually a single day unless mentioned that the characters sleep and pass into the next. Chronologically based on real-life date posted unless otherwise noted.
2. You may not Roleplay a character until that character has been approved by a staff member. If changes are needed, you will be expected to comply with all changes necessary or the character will not be approved.
3. If your character is a work-in-progress, please label it (WIP) or any variation there-of. After one month, if it is not finished, you will be notified by the staff and the thread will be archived. Notify staff if you wish to finish an archived WIP.
4. Your character may be in as many threads as you wish, provided they do not happen simultaneously IC, or in too great of a distance between locations without explainable travel (IE dragon).
Character Rules
1. Please do not make joke characters, or characters who are completely out of place in an environment where every day is survival. If your character is spoiled rotten and used to having everything they want, expect them to adapt or die. You CAN have a weakling, but they will not thrive in Tigris. If weakness is suspected, staff will ask you if it is deliberate before approving your character, as torturing characters can be fun and many of our Roleplayers might wish to do so.
2. Transfer Riders will be limited, and the limits are subject to change and will be posted. Assume that Queens are almost never allowed.
3. Dragon names always end in "th", no exceptions. Male Rider's names are always contracted (IE R'nos), no exceptions. Wher's names incorporate part of the Handler's name, and end in "sk". No exceptions.
4. Characters may have standard eye and hair colors only, however lenience may be granted in the realm of eyes to slightly-outside the norm. (IE amber eyes that look slightly golden, grey eyes that look very light) Dying hair is not a thing on Pern.
5. During fights between characters (PC or NPC) it is not possible to go completely without taking damage unless both opponents are incredibly well-trained and at a stalemate. Your characters aren't Rambo, and they will be expected to fight appropriately. If the character is a very well-trained (IE spent Marks to acquire an exceptional fighting ability) it is assumed that they don't miss their mark often, however their bodies are still prone to damage the same as everyone else's. NPCs, while not our heroes at Tigris, are generally of the same pool (IE Riders) and as such have very similar training. Most fights aren't over as easy as "such and such gets stabbed in the neck". Be realistic. This also includes turning on God Mode, because Doom is a crappy game and your characters will be expected to never activate this lame cheat code. This means that you are not allowed to roleplay as though you are forcing a character to take a hit (IE: Ranos punches Odin in the face, which causes her to stumble) unless the Roleplayer has given you permission. Instead, you must leave this open ended, and the outcome for the player to decide. Since it is a rule that you aren't invincible, they will be expected not to dodge everything you throw, so don't worry.
(IE: Ranos punches Odin.
---------------------------
Odin gets punched in the face, and cries but then eats a cookie and is fine.)
6. Each player is limited to (3) Ranking Characters. However, if you obtain Three Ranking positions, you must be EXTREMELY Active. If a player has not been active with (1) Ranking character, you must seek admin approval before you can obtain another.
Hatching Rules
1. Dragonets will likely injure your character, but they can't kill them without your consent. Please be aware that mauling is VERY common during Hatchings, so do not expect to get away purely unscathed. However, please be aware each player will be asked for their consent to mauling, as well as to what extent their characters may be mauled. These questions are posed in the Candidate questionnaire template at the bottom of the character application form.
2. You have no control over a dragonet until it Impresses to your character. No exceptions. If you try to force Impression to a dragon or wher, your character will probably die. And then, they will not Impress. You know, 'cuz they're dead. They MAY, however, be poked with a stick or other sharp object post-mortem.
3. Dragons Impress based upon gender, but don't care much for the sexuality of their Rider. Any Candidate who for some reason cannot enact sexual contact during a Flight, for whatever reason, will most likely not be Impressed upon Hatching. This way of thinking is bad for a dragon.
3a. Candidates with physical or mental disabilities: Please do your research people! Before you even CONSIDER making a Candidate with a disability please be aware that we may have people with said disability on the site and your character could be considered offensive to them if portrayed incorrectly. Research is key, as well as talking to Staff! Be careful!
3b. Subsequently, major mental or physical disabilities or deformations such as Down-Syndrome will not be allowed in a Candidate, but may be tolerated in a Hold, but most likely the affected person would have been killed the moment the illness made itself known. This is due to a common practice on Pern, not due to the Staff hating you. Multiple Personality Disorder (or Disassociative Identity Disorder) or Schizophrenia may be considered with Admin approval, depending on the severity of the disorder. As such, minor disabilities, such as threadscore, blind in one eye, partially deaf, or mute can be accepted. More advanced versions like full blindness or deafness are subject to Admin approval. Missing limbs are fine to an extent. Candidates that are utterly psychotic/insane will likely never impress to a dragon, while those subtle "Evil to the core but no one will know until it's too late" characters that are incredibly difficult to pull off can be accepted; however their applications must be approved by an Admin and will likely require heavy revision.
4. New mutations (colors, hues, etc.) are not allowed into the role play without admin (Jay's) permission. This rule applies to Staff as well. However ideas will be considered.
5. Hatchings here will not likely be the happy-go-lucky sort, and while you're expected to be open to the dragon you get, complaints about not getting your Queen will not fly very well in Pernese community. All dragons are awesome for their own reasons, please do not insult the maker of the clutch by refusing one. This causes sadface. Pestering a Staff member, complaining in the C-box, or even dropping subtle hints about what color you think you should get/should have Impressed will not be tolerated. Do not PM a Staff member asking for a specific color of dragon. The first time you will be warned, continuous repetition of the action will earn you a ban. This doesn't mean your character can't complain IC about it, just within reason, and they should grow to love their dragon, as this part of Impression is quite literally forced. Characters are filled with love and devotion, not contempt and regret.
6. Color preferences will be taken into consideration, however rare colors will be just that, and you are expected to not get your hopes up if you are looking to Impress a Queen/King. The owner of the clutch will Impress their dragons to whom they see fit, and it is generally accepted that they give certain dragons to certain people for a reason. However, all member clutches MUST be run by an Admin first, as well as to whom the dragons will Impress (most likely). This is to prevent hoarding, and this also means the Hatching Host cannot Impress from their own clutches, unless approved by an Admin. Under no situation will a Rare Impression be allowed from a clutch you hold to a character under your name.
7. Cross-Impressions can happen if the Candidate is either masculine or feminine enough for it to be considered notable by dragons, however Golds and Bronzes may not Cross-Impress.
Dragon Rules
1. Mutations will be a thing. Expect to see them some time or another, albeit rare, because genetics don't agree with those who like pretty dragons. Dragon genetics are based on a Staff-created system not available to the public.
2. Any given color may be many shades of the same hue, though no more than two or three shades per dragon are permitted.
3. Shading on a dragon is of the natural sort, IE a patch here or there, or lighter "paws" or head knobs or wing membranes. No lines, no markings, no symbols or patterns. Options to have coloration that "kind of looks like ____" will be available for purchase with on-site Marks and subject to staff approval.
4. In general, dragons are of a small range of size for their color. Dragons who are slightly larger/smaller may be rare, and dragons who are considered drastically outside their range (IE "runts") may be available for purchase pending admin approval.
5. These activity requirements apply only to Queen Riders:
If you are the Roleplayer of a Queenrider, you must be active (this is obvious why, they are the source of many eggs.) and you must post your Queenrider at least once every month, preferably more than that. If you fail to do so, you may (not necessarily will) lose your Queen slot, and your character archived until one becomes available (if a new Queen takes her place). Generally you will be notified before this happens.
We will only have a certain number of active Queens in the Weyr at any given time, and unless another Weyr is added in the Tigris faction, it will stay at this number until further notice. It is subject to change, if we grow larger, but otherwise remains fixed.
Current slots available: 3
Other Pernese Creature Rules
1. Accepted pets allowed will be fire-lizards, trained birds, felines, and canines. Subject to staff approval.
2. More than two fire-lizards Impressed to any given person will require purchase of the rare ability to have three or more, IE Menoly from the books.
3. Fire lizards Impress regardless of age, gender, sexuality, and Candidate color preference.
4. Whers Impress regardless of gender, sexuality, and color preference. Wher Candidates are expected to join the watch or manual labor forces once Impressed. Wher Candidates are older on average than dragon Candidates.
5. Whers will be allowed to use simple speech, but only simple speech. They are prone to bad grammar and sentence structure, as well as leaving out words, and are not very bright in the slightest. (IE: "Jaysk no like.")
6. Whers may be able to bond to a new Handler if their's is killed.
7. Pernese creatures never seen before may be created for the sake of the Roleplay, as they are assumed to have evolved separately on the Western Continent. These creatures will NOT be fun. If you are reading this and are new, and have read the other rules above, put "spider" in all caps at the very top of your first application for a treat. (not for Staff)
8. Rare Earth animals are generally a no-go unless related to felines or canines, subject to Staff approval. The nature of these animals are not to be taken as pets.
