Appearance:
Miekel stands at an unintimidating five foot one inch. However, she is rather fit for someone of her size - being a bit stocky and perhaps seeming a bit... unfemine as she is not some delicate flower like she seems to look on other women as being. While she has plenty of shape to her body and a rugged sort of beauty of her own, the sea has definitely taken its toll on her and afforded her injuries and scars from various accidents which dot her skin. her face bares a scar over her left cheek from when a rigging snapped and lashed out there - a bit of wood that had weekend still attached to the end of that rope - and cut her, barely stopping before it would have damaged her eye.
Speaking of her eyes, they are a deep brown in color and perhaps a bit on the large side, though they do have a nice and distinctive shape to them with long dark lashes which frame them. Between them is her nose which has been broken at least three times if the crookedness of the bridge is anything to go by and the odd angle at which it sits above her full pink lips, which she feels are the only part of her unmarred. Her unruly black hair falls in a messy mass of curls down past her shoulders. Though she puts some effort into keeping it tame, she will often wash, brush, then tie a strip of light colored cloth around her head to keep it out of her face - using it for the nature blocker to the sun it is and not truly being one to desire to do anything with it or try to make it look pretty. It isn't worth her time. When cut short, she will still wear that cloth around her head while her curls bounce around her head rather wildly.
Her skin tone is a dark tan color with a definite touch of sun to it since she has spent so much time out on the water in the heat with more sunlight bouncing off of the water - and as has her family - that their skin is often quite affected, though they tend not to burn in the normal circumstances of sun and sea. You just need to be smart about it, and she certainly dresses smart when it comes to the sun, the sea, and the heat.

Personality:
Miekel is a very opinionated person. However, those opinions are often formed over time and through a lot of thinking. She never does anything haphazardly - unless its speaking. SHe will speak her mind and then think of the consequences of what she says afterwards, which is likely going to get her in trouble. Although, many of her opinions have very little to do with leadership of the Weyr, but they do have a lot to do with the people and what she sees of their personalities. She is decidedly untrusting and tends to see the bad rather than the good in a person. Miekel rarely takes the time to actually make a real friend and when she does its usually with someone she sees as her equal - often with the same distrustful nature she has, which may be quite counter productive. However, because she feels it is only right to feel this way, she finds them to be more real than other people.
Miekel is a gruff, blunt, irritating person in general. She tends towards being lonely and she is okay with that. It's a familiar feeling. Though she doesn't think one could truly be lonely at sea, what with the water to keep you company and the storms which could drag you to the dangerous depths. It's quite the life, though she doesn't find it particularly exciting.... more like a state of being in which you can truly be happy and as one with something deadly. Perhaps the idea of being as one with something deadly was what made her agree to be a candidate at first...
Miekel often refuses to second guess herself. She will take her decisions at face value and choose not to look at it as bad or not as it is already done. Certainly she learns from her decisions based on what those things bring her - bad consequence or good - otherwise, she doesn't much are. Miekel is not one to become emotionally invested in another person. She tends to keep her distance - even in a relationship. She'll take the attention, the physical, and even the emotional for awhile, but she likes to not be attached. She prefers no strings so that she can set sail again without worrying about leaving anyone behind. The only exception to this is her father as he has raised her and always remained by her side until his recent injuries in the War. His last run has landed him for good and left Miekel under the command ofher father's first mate and new Captain of the Mist Raven. She rather dislikes this particular man as she finds him to be incredibly sexist. A woman can be just as good if not better a sailor than any man.
Now as far as reading and writing goes... Miekel doesn't or rather can't. She was never properly educated on anything that didn't have to do with her craft and trade. She can read a map to a degree, though actually reading words is beyond her. And speaking properly... well she doesn't even bother trying.

History:
Miekel was born to the daughter of a trader and a seafarer. THey weren't married, but they believed themselves very much in love. That is until Miekel was five turns old when her father had been gone for nearly a turn and her mother had moved on to another young man in her own caravan... When her father finally caught up with them, desiring to see his love and his daughter, he found her wiht another man... and thus took his daughter with him. He raised her at sea. It was a rough life at a difficult task - a task to tame the sea and to ride it. The sea was your sky and the ship was your dragon. Or so her father liked to say. She wasn't so sure about dragon. Dragons didn't seem to be a whole lot in her eyes as a child... The waters and the protection it could offer was all that one really needed. Of course, thread fell over the oceans too and a boat could be put in extreme danger, but that was why one always kept a horde of firelizards along and tried to be sure a small supply of firestone was available.
Miekel was still young when her father remarried to a holdborn woman named Allor. She lived in a small cothold near the bay. As time went on, it was the cotholds that first felt the sting of the war - long before it was called a war. There was a raid on the cothold while they were there visiting. Her father was grievously injured... and her step-mother was killed before her eyes. The young woman vowed she would avenge the woman and her father's injury... which meant learning to fight.
Shelro was left to captain the Mist Raven as both Miekel and her father remained on land as he healed. He was no longer able to walk. His leg was so severely damaged. That was when her mother came. Miekel instantly disliked the uppity woman and it caused further tension. Miekel went back to sea with her fahter the moment she could, leaving her mother to her fate, whatever it may be. The Mist Raven was not there's any longer, but it was helping to carry people across the waters to Tigris Weyr where a new future awaited them. One where they could resist the war. However, Miekel's only opinion of the war was and remains that it is a bad thing, but someone needs to fight to get in the middle and stop it. She is angry and hurt by what was done to her step-mother her father and the fate that her mother will likely suffer as well, as much as she hated the woman.
