O'SCAR
Full Name: O'scar (Oliscar) Farsong
Pronunciation: oh-scar (oh-lih-scar)
Age: 33 Turns
Birth Turn and Season: Mid-Summer, 1728
Gender: Male
Sexuality: Pansexual
Location: Benden Weyr to Tigris Weyr
Rank: Dragon Rider
Appearance:
O'scar is one of a few copper haired fellows - at least that he has met - and he is not particularly proud of it. Over all, he is kind of ruddy and red and finds this thoroughly displeasing and annoying. His nearly constant scowl is always affixed over his dark blue eyes and his myriad of freckles dot his cheeks, neck, shoulders, arms... well anywhere the sun has touched. He has a nasty penchant for burning when he doesn't dress carefully to avoid it and really rather stay in the shade when he is able to. His lips are a bit over sized on his face, his jaw is square and set and his forehead is rather square as well. His features are a bit blocky and.... well he has a nasty scar on throat which has rendered him a mute, a very annoying turn of events. Especially considering he can't write. Which is what he supposes he has Marilith for.
He is a very tall man, easily standing head and shoulders over most other men. He is nearly seven foot with broad shoulders and a muscular build - which is partially due to the hard work he has put into learning to be a rider... and learning how to fight both thread and later the War when it came to Benden. He was a rider born into a peaceful interval and only in the last three turns has he had to fight Thread... and only recently has he had to fight a war. He bares a couple of threadscores across his back and some distinctive scars across his chest and arms from blades, arrows, and swords. Life had never been particularly kind... but it only seems to get worse.
Personality:
O'scar is a very observant person. He watches everything and reads body language like its his first language - which wasn't something he really started to do until after he lost his own voice. In the past, O'scar might have been considered somewhat talkative if extremely and painfully awkward... but those days are long gone now. It has been turns since he lost his voice and any shred of optimism in his life that hasn't come from Marilith. He considers himself a realist, but a pessimist is a more apt description for him as he tends to look at the worst of life and expect the worst out of it.
This is one of those things that leads him to butting heads with Marilith on a regular basis. There's is not the easiest relationship and for an already rather grumpy and discontent mute rider, this just makes him worse... And with Marilith being his voice, it can make things quite difficult from time to time when he refuses to speak to her in order to speak to someone else.
It really annoys him when he means to sound mean or gruff and Marilith makes him sound cheery instead, which can lead to more arguing between the two. For all that he and Marilith fight, they work very well together as a team and really do love to spend their time together. They may be very opposite, even going as far as to say that O'scar is incredibly untrusting and solitary while she is outgoing and loving, they complete each other... and they seem to know that. Or at least O'scar seems to know that.
Family:
Scarra, Mother. No Craft. She was simply a holder's wife. Deceased.
Orrowan, Father. Minor Lord holder. Deceased.
Ronowan, Brother. Minor Lord Holder.
Ranowan formerly of Brown Ransk, Brother. Deceased.
Sorowan, Sister. Whereabouts currently unknown.
History:
Oliscar was born thirty-three turns ago to a minor holder and his young wife. She wasn't his first life, but his third. The two before her had both been older and had not yet borne him a son to inherit his holding. Each had died in their own time in very similar ways - which seemed to be alone and unseen. No one was entirely sure of what was happening to them. But Scarra would marry him as the youngest daughter of a minor Lord Holder herself.... She could not expect much better from the world than this... unless she was searched, which she had not been. Thus she was trapped here with a cruel man to whom she would bear three sons and one daughter before she passed at a young age, leaving them in the care and charge of a cruel, manipulative father who could only care for what others did for him and did not care one bit for their hurts. He was a cold harsh man and he taught his sons much the same. His daughter was treated far worse - an object at best, a source of disturbance and turmoil in his life quite frequently.
Oliscar grew under this treatment from the time he was young. He grew cold and distant, but always with a biting tongue and sarcasm that he would use to draw his father's ire towards him and away form his younger siblings. But... there comes a time when one can simply not take it any longer and you must do what you can to protect your loved ones - your family. When he was nineteen, nearing twenty, he took advantage of their father's absence... and tried to take all his siblings and flee. However, Ronowan would not go with him. It was the three of them - Sorowan and Ranowan who were fleeing by way of Benden Hold wen a search dragon - a burly blue beast - searched Oliscar... And took the three of them to the Weyr.
Oliscar stood for two turns before he Impressed to a little Green named Marilith. In that time, his brother bonded to a Brown Wher named Ransk. They were all happy - except for Sorwan who was sullen and withdrawn. Marilith even tried to cheer her as O'scar refused to elave ehr alone with ehr thoguths for long. It wasn't right to do so with her suffering so much. The young girl was often delicate and didn't quite fit in with those around her. She acted skittish, but as a lady in every way... she didn't often see other young ladies of the Weyr as being women... homosexuality bothered her deeply...
It was when O'scar's Marilith flew when she was a turn and a half old and was caught by a blue ridden by a man that Sorrowan disappeared. O'scar and Marilith were never able to find her... When thread started to fall... He went up into the skies to fight. They received a few threadscores, but would fare far better than Ranowan and his Ransk who died in their first fall.... O'scar turned inward and depended entirely on Marilith and no other person in his life at that point. He refused to. His sister had abandoned him and his brother had died.
When the war started... O'scar became even more jaded... Even more pessimistic. In the first battle, he lost his voice forever. His throat burned and hsi body broken, leaving him scarred. When he rose from his bed again, he did nothing but train. He and Marilith were at greater odds than ever, but they managed. He did not want to use her to speak for him at first... but he eventually gave in. He was angry and he felt it necessary to fight... but... he couldn't do it for long. It only brought more hardship and each death weighed heavily upon him... That was what lead him to become involved with those against the War and move to the Western Continent with them...
MARILITH
Name: Marilith
Pronunciation: Mare-ih-lith
Age: 15 Turns
Color & Hex Codes: Green; a8e69b bcf7b0 61b050 c8dec7
Size: 21 Feet
Appearance:
Marilith is a very pale green dragon with variance in her hide with a slightly washed out tail tip, lighter spots on her wings, and darker blotches on her face. This variance in her hide color is probably what stands out the most for this otherwise unspectacular dragoness. She is roughly of average size for a green and decidedly slim-lined and built for speed. However, she is not built as gracefully as she seems to think she shoudl have been, and this is a relatively constant annoyance to her.
She carries herself with pride and a regal air that borders on being queenly. However, she is far too clumsy to pull it off well enough to make it believable. Not that she likes it when her clumsiness is pointed out. And she is quite clumsy indeed - often knocking things over with her tail or tripping over said tail when meandering on the ground. However, that doesn't stop her from doing what she believes is her job and taking care of her rider, her O'scar.
Personality:
Marilith is a cheery beast with a happy-go-lucky perspective on life. She is an eternal optimist and the exact opposite of O'scar's pessimistic outlook. Flirtatious to a fault and trusting to the point of stupidity, Marilith is anything but a harsh or harmful dragon. She is the most mothering, caring and easily taken advantage of dragoness you will probably ever meet. It's a good thing she has her levelheaded, distrustful, pessimistic O'scar to look out for her.
Marilith would much sooner play than fight, but she understands the necessity of it. In a battle, she can be a bit of a hothead, especially where the saftery of her friends is at stake. She is loyal to her rider and to her friends unwaveringly. She will stand up for them even at risk to herself. She has quite the tennacity about her - willign to take on any challenge that gets in her way regardless of how daunting it might be.
No matter how miserable the circumstance tend to be, Marilith will tend to try to be optimistic - though when she burns out she will tend to complain. A lot. And O'scar gets quite frustrated. This is where they most often butt heads.
Mind-Voice:
Mine! MINE! Look! Look! Isn't the Sea just.... Just... BEAUTIFUL!?
Marilith's voice is a high pitched soprano which pitches even higher into a falceto when she is excited. It can be quite strident and annoying. Not to mention she often comes off as tone deaf to begin with.
